Frequently asked questions
📌 How many times can you exercise this right?
As many times as needed. Prosthetics is not a one-time assistance. If a prosthesis breaks down, loses functionality, or the shape of the residual limb changes — you have the full right to apply again. The state covers both initial and repeated prosthetics, as well as repairs.
📌 Are there any additional charges?
No, everything is free for military personnel. The government covers the full cost of the prosthesis, including maintenance, training, support, adaptation, and more. You are not required to pay anything extra. If someone asks you to pay — contact social services or a legal advisor.
📌 Can I receive services abroad?
Yes, with special approval. If it is not possible to provide prosthetics of the required level in Ukraine, the Ministry of Social Policy may send you abroad for treatment or prosthetics at the state’s expense. This is done through a special commission and with approval from the ministry. The challenge with prosthetics abroad is warranty service. If the prosthesis fails during the warranty period, it cannot be repaired free of charge in Ukraine. Since the manufacturer is located outside of Ukraine, Ukrainian providers will not fulfill free warranty obligations. Any repairs or maintenance will have to be paid for out of pocket.
📌 What to do if the Fund refuses?
-
Get a written reason for the refusal.
-
Correct the deficiencies (if it’s about documents or clarifications), or file an appeal.
-
You have the right to reapply, contact a social protection representative, or reach out to human rights organizations.
-
If needed — contact free legal aid: legalaid.gov.ua
📌 How to reapply after changing your address or after the warranty expires?
Undergo a medical examination and an LCC or MCC review.
Get an updated medical opinion and submit a new application just like the first time. Changes in the residual limb, physical parameters, or the end of the warranty period are official grounds for re-prosthetics.
